So… I have been doing printing sales for roughly 7 months now. Along the way I have learned some key lessons that I haven’t come across in any of the “How To” and “Motivational” sales books I’ve read. Maybe this list belongs more in the “For Dummies”…

On September 1, 2009 Kluge opened our new demo showroom at headquarters in St. Croix Falls, WI.
We are excited to now offer customers the option of seeing a live demo of our equipment prior to purchase at our demo room. In the past we have had to rely on tradeshows and customer partners to demo equipment presale. Now we have a place onsite to serve this purpose.

There were a couple of vendors at Print 09 offering better color by using less ink. Specifically, Fine Eye, which also announced at the show that they were merging with Chromaticity, has developed a new algorithm for separating color. They say that the math almost everyone uses to separate color is more than 100 years old and needed refining. That makes sense: clearly we don't use the same ink, paper, screens or presses as we did 100 years ago. The company says that their real intent was simply…

I just don’t get it. It’s nearly 2010, not 1910. Internet domain names have been publicly available for at least 25 years. Yet, as I was adding Print '09 contact information to my CRM database in the aftermath of Print ’09, one thing really struck me: there were many professionals and small business owners at Print ’09 who are still using aol.com, yahoo.com, gmail.com, etc. for primary business contact email.
Now, I’m not knocking the big boys of email. I have private email accounts…

The latest exciting add-on offered by Kluge is for their line of folding and gluing equipment. Our research shows that the capacity folder sector is an area of growth potential. We now enter into the market with the "Capacity Folder Unit".
Sometimes dubbed the term, "Box Folder", Capacity Pocket Folders are essentially a box pocket incorporated into a pocket folder or similar item. By enabling a pocket folder with a permanently large opening for inserts, the capacity folder can hold…

An elderly man was wondering if his wife had a hearing problem. So one night, he stood behind her while she was washing dishes and he whispered softly to her, “Honey, can you hear me?” There was no response. He moved a little closer and said, “Honey, can you hear me?” Still, there was no response. Finally he moved right behind her and hollered, “Honey, can you hear me?” Startled and annoyed, she snapped back, “For the third time, yes!”
If you need something,.... I'm listening!

If you are like me, you hate trying to interpret and stay on top of the latest USPS changes to rules and regulations. I've gotten a lot of helpful info from my local printers and mail houses, but I found this article at www.TarketMarketingMag.com, which (I think) explains the new rules quite well. Figured I would share it here. It also has links at the end to USPS documentation.…

My entire career has been built on introducing concepts and ideas to a diverse audience. Some would call it "pre-sales" - but I don't really believe that doing something like convincing the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to examine its reporting requirements would qualify as "pre-sales". Yet, in a way, that's exactly what that task entailed: convincing the regulators of a moribund industry that a particular rule was being inconsistently interpreted (and applied) by nearly every commercial…

Don’t sell PURLs!
This discussion is directed to anyone who thinks they are in a position to “wow” their prospect with an offer to increase results with increased response rates generated by the introduction of personalized URLs (PURLs) in their next campaign. Though the technology is nothing new, we are seeing a greater interest in this service as more publicity of its merits are exposed.…

The URL won’t leave you guessing on the content of our new site. Since its inception in 1919, Kluge has become renowned for manufacturing high quality print finishing equipment. In the late 1980’s we purchased the Haskins folder gluer line and have been developing highly versatile multi-function folder gluers ever since.
Today, we have taken our folder gluer product line a step further and created an online presence that will educate you about the industry. At the same time,…

It's hard to believe that September is already here while Autumn, Halloween, and all the other holidays are just around the corner.
Summer flew by this year despite all the challenges that face us (and with the holidays coming up soon), it might be a good time to reflect back and start counting our blessings.
One of my new ad agency clients…
