Hi, I am new to this Group. As a member I know I will benefit and I hope in return I can be a benefit to you. My company provides printing services and business forms.

I've noticed that many here refer to themselves as "print brokers" rather than distributors. Please explain the different. Even though I've been doing this for many years, I've never gotten a clear definition. Thank you.

Some of you may not be tuned in to the PSDA principal's listserv, but there was an interesting discussion about the upcoming Small Distributors Summit flitting across the email system that I think is worth sharing. The follow are excerts from real members...unsolicited...unedited.

Our business was up 35% last year and I expect to be up 35% this year. I would say 50% of that is because of the SDS. Last year, from the SDS, we did donut boxes, revamped marketing materials, web enhancements, searched out digital work, and the biggest thing-promotional products. That is all because of the SDS. Other things we did were from mentors and more experienced large distributors that gave me advise. Bob O'Connell made me realise that sending my CSR's to training once a month, whether it is in house webinars, or Fred Pryor seminars, improved our problem-order rate. Robert Crabtree made us realize how our web presence and SEO was so important. We are on twitter, and have our own blog. etc. This is all PSDA, and why we had such a banner year. There are a lot of other things, but I will talk about those in my session at the SDS. The work is there. Knowing how to get it is the KEY!!!

Now is the time to spend money to build your business. The SDS is the premier event to help you grow your business.

But please consider the SDS as a place to go to renew, revive and re-energize. If you go to the SDS in search of learning about new products, news ways to present products or new methods; you'll find them! Paying back your travel investment many times over.

Now is the time they should be investing in their business and themselves in the effort of moving their companies forward and growing their business. I am not in the SDS group of companies but whenever you can meet and share with your peers with an open mind, you will leave with lessons that will repay the $$ within a very quick time frame.

A primary reason to join an association such as PSDA is to establish relationships with peers and vendors in our industry. Within our association there are examples of businesses of every size, shape, experience and walk of life. Because of this diversity we are a strong association with a tremendous history but, this diversity can make it difficult to establish the strong relational ties that we seek in the first place. The Small Distributor Summit is the place and time that the distributor/owner of a $2.5 million company can learn, teach, and set the sail to grow in the future.

It has been my experience over the past three SDS events that the networking and the friendships are worth every dollar & effort that we make to participate. Anything you put in will return to you, multiplied.

The Small Distributor Summit was started as a vehicle that allowed smaller dollar volume distributors in the Association a venue to meet at a convenient location to get educated on ways to improve our business position, share ideas with our peers who run businesses of roughly the same dollar volume as you do, and find out about solutions to real life situations that our manufacturing partners can help us to take in an idea and take out an order we've never done before for an existing customer or a prospect.

Great video Juan. I love that people are starting to get it!! I've been silently hiring 'screw-ups' (to quote Tom Peters) for years and they happen to be the strongest assets to our organization.
