Hey Ya'all!

My name is Scott Gordon, I am the Founder and CEO of Mid-Atlantic Freelance, LLC, a Knowledge Broker based out of Alexandria, VA. We utilize our team of nearly 300 freelance associates on staff with our company to develop, grow, execute, and implement any creative need you can think of. From full scale branding efforts to direct mail marketing; from web design and development to the creation of ad copy. From book editing to White Paper writing. we do it all...so we can help if you have any questions on here.

I've been in the worldof marketing since I graduated at 20. I have been a marketing director, media buyer, Senior Director of Creative Services, and before I launched my own company, I was Senior V.P. of Marketing and Communications for a large real estate management and development company.

And since we're getting personal in here...I enjoy time with my wife and dog (in no particular order) and I climb extremely tall mountains in excess of 8,000 meters. And I play golf...poorly.

Hello!
My name is Jennie Doran. I'm an in-house graphic designer at the Print Services & Distribution Association. I've been a designer for 12 years now, not including my college years. Yikes! Time flies. I love my job. I get to create great stuff in print as well as on the web. I am looking forward to meeting more of the designers and creative-types on this site!

On a personal note, I was a fine arts major in college so I definitely enjoy making my own art. Mainly painting, but I've dabbled in some jewelry making too. I have a husband who's also quite creative (he's a carpenter) and a 10 month old daughter. She's our coolest creation yet!

Howdy all!

I'm Alex Kollitz, I run MyPrintSite.com, an online trade only print site. I have ten years in marketing related jobs running the gamut from apparel, promotional products, tradeshow exhibits, signage, large format, a little bit in web tech :) and of course printing. Prior to that I had about the same time in hi-tech. I graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Venture Management and a minor in Art. My strength is in innovation, problem solving and unique insights into issues. I choose to apply these traits in the print industry and am having a blast doing it!

For fun I like to go trail riding with my family on quads, when I want serious adrenaline, I go by myself to the track :) Other than being a print junkie, I am also a motorhead. Too many vices...not enough time!

I have a lovely wife and two kids age 10 and 13, brilliant and perfect in every way.

My goal with my business is to help small to medium print brokers and other print resellers dramatically increase their revenue while reducing their time required to achieve it.

I am absolutely delighted to be here and to meet people in our industry such as yourself and others in this group!

Hi! I'm Frances Metcalf, a former direct mail fundraiser (clients included US Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Marine Museum at Quantico, and the National Museum of the American Indian). Now, I'm a full time fine arts printmaker. I easily made the transition from using all kinds of commercial printing to hand printing. It's fun, and I wouldn't be able to do what I do now without all the years I spent checking bluelines and wondering when we were going to get on press. I wasn't the production person, just the account exec.

Until I get my etching press (a dream of mine) I work out of the Torpedo Factory in Old Town.. Right now, you can see one of my prints hanging in the Art League Gallery on the first floor (until August 5th.)

I'm married to the most wonderful, supportive man on the Earth, have 2 black cats, 1 and 1/2 German Shepherds (the other half is Labrador) and live in Springfield. When not making prints, I can be found in my garden, watching baseball, knitting, and thinking about the next monotype I'm going to do.

I've attached a couple of samples of my work, and would love your comments and reactions.

And gee, we all ought to me at St. Elmo's for coffee, soon.

Frances

PS For those of you who care, "Madonna of Wenham" was created using three separate polyester plates. Plate 1 was a photo manipulated in Photoshop, plate 2 was a background, and plate 3 was created by painting directly on the poly using Johnson's wax with ink mixed in. We used Litho inks, on a hand driven etching press, and cleaned up using Wesson Oil and Simple Green. Not quite the same as 100,000 copies on a web press, is it? It took me an entire week to create an edition of seven prints.

Great video Juan. I love that people are starting to get it!! I've been silently hiring 'screw-ups' (to quote Tom Peters) for years and they happen to be the strongest assets to our organization.
